Cricothyrodotomy is an Emergency procedure performed by a Physician to provide artificial ventilation. It is required for critically ill patients who cannot be intubated for some reasons, such as difficulty in intubation and Anatomical structural considerations.

Unable to intubate
Unable to ventilation, unable to give AMBU breathing
Injuries to the face and nasal injuries
Obstruction of airway
Foreign Body in airway
Nasal Trauma,
Oral Trauma
Pharyngeal Trauma
Nasal Bleeding
Oral Bleeding
Pharyngeal Bleeding
Laryngospasm
Equipment for Procedure
Sclapel and Blade
Gum Elastic bogie
Syrangee for Cuff Inflation,
ET Tube (Airway Tube)
Large Bore cannulla No.16 or 18
Ambu Bag and Mask
Nursing management:
Secure incorrect position,
Mo Maintain airflow with 100% Oxygen,
Monitors Spo2 and vitals continuously,
Periodically suctioning
Complications:
Inflammation and infection at the wound site
Tracheoesophageal fistula
Important:
Check for placement of Tube auscultate for breath sounds for both side
